After years on the road, I’ve chosen a home base. A place where I intend to live full-time. A place where travel becomes something I choose again—maybe for pleasure, maybe for work—but not something I depend on for survival. That shift feels bigger than I expected.

There’s a romantic version of solar power on the road. Panels quietly soaking up sunlight. Batteries always topped off. Freedom, clean energy, no stress. And then there’s the version no one really talks about. The Morning It Doesn’t Work

A large number of people living in their vehicles aren’t traveling much at all. Some stay parked for weeks at a time, moving only when required. Others follow seasonal patterns, heading north when it warms up, south when it cools down, relocating just twice a year.

When people picture “work camping,” they usually imagine a big RV parked under the trees somewhere while someone checks guests into a campground office. My version looked a little different. I was living out of my SUV.

When people hear that someone lives in their vehicle, they often picture a stereotype. Maybe it’s someone who has completely given up on stability, someone drifting without direction, or someone living recklessly for the sake of adventure. The reality is far more complicated - and far more human.
